The National Trans Bar Association is Seeking Applicants to Serve on Our Board of Directors!

As a new and growing organization, Board members have an exciting opportunity to shape the direction of NTBA and direct its mission and programs moving forward. NTBA has been many years in the making and was recently founded with the following core mission:
- Recruit, support and develop the skills of trans and gender nonconforming (TGNC) legal professionals and law students;
- Increase access to affordable, legally and culturally competent legal services for TGNC communities;
- Work in partnership with existing organizations to foster bold, inclusive, and creative legal strategies to expand formal legal protections for TGNC people and meaningfully address issues of equity; and
- Elevate intersectional work and cross movement collaborations
BOARD CRITERIA: We are currently looking to fill several Board positions, with a particular interest in individuals with the following experiences and expertise:
Identification as trans and/or gender non-conforming, particularly trans women and trans-feminine people
Members of communities who have been historically underrepresented and/or excluded from the legal profession, including people of color, people who are currently or have previously lived in poverty, people who have come into contact with the criminal legal system, and members of immigrant communities
People from a range of legal professions, including people who work in small firms, solo practice, larger firms, and/or other practice areas, in addition to those working primarily on TGNC advocacy and litigation
People residing in the Midwest, Southwest, Southern and Southeastern regions
Board Member Responsibilities:
Ability to commit to monthly Board calls (2 hours/month)
Ability to Chair or Co-Chair one NTBA Committee (3-5 hours/month)
Ability to play a leadership role in, attend, and promote flagship NTBA events, including the annual Trans Law Symposium
Ability to attend annual Board retreat (1 day/year)
Commitment to participating in fundraising and/or membership recruitment
Commitment to empowering marginalized TGNC communities through our work on the NTBA and commitment to an anti-oppression agenda and values as described by the NTBA mission
Commitment to and passion for building a network of TGNC lawyers and legal advocates
